During the 2014-15 school year, Heritage High School Staff and Administration reviewed multiple sets of data that revealed a few things about the success or failure of freshmen students in their first year of high school. After reviewing our data for 2013-14 & the available data for the 2014-15, we could see definite trends that showed a need for greater support both academically & socially.
After careful consideration and meetings with students, staff, and administration the solution became clear; a 9th grade academy. The 9th Grade Husky Academy is designed to create an atmosphere of growth specifically for 9th grade students transitioning to High School. This will be done through implementing Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS), and a clear focus to help students develop organizational & study skills.
We believe that helping students develop a growth mindset in their first and most formative year of High School and providing a supportive culture to grow in will prepare them for a successful 4 year journey that ends with an on time graduation.
Our Goal: A First Year Success
The academy has been driven by the development and implementation of 4 major areas (Collaboration, Curriculum, Communication, and Culture). The academy steering committee has met numerous times during the course of the summer to discuss each of these areas in ensuring that everything is met prior to the opening of the school year. Students will experience authentic and meaningful learning as well as develop personal and academic skills necessary to be successful in high school.
